Stone Age for the aggressor: Ukrainian hackers hacked the Russian analog of Prozorro

14 January 14:45

A Ukrainian hacker community has carried out a large-scale cyberattack on a Russian electronic trading platform, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.

A group of Ukrainian hackers called Yellow Drift successfully attacked Russia’s largest state-owned electronic trading platform, Roseltorg, which is the Russian equivalent of the Ukrainian Prozorro system.

As a result of this cyber operation, a huge amount of data was destroyed – more than 550 terabytes of information. The attack took place on the night of January 8-9, 2025, and its consequences were so serious that the platform has not yet resumed its work.

The Yellow Drift hackers published a statement on their Telegram channel, where they clearly explained their position.

“Silence gives rise to questions, speculation, and panic. And this was by no means part of our plans. Our goal, on the contrary, is to make it clear where everyone belongs and how cause and effect relationships work. Do you support tyranny and sponsor wars? Get ready to return to the Stone Age,”

– the hackers wrote in the newly created channel.

“Roseltorg is not just an ordinary trading platform, but a key platform for public procurement in Russia, which is also used for corporate procurement, business-to-business (b2b) transactions and property auctions.

Representatives of the platform are trying to downplay the scale of the problem, stating on their official channel:

“We continue to actively work on solving the problems that have arisen with access to the platform. Every effort is being made to ensure that this happens in the near future.”

However, hackers from Yellow Drift revealed the true extent of the damage.

“To explain: “Roseltorg does not carry out temporary technical work. “Roseltorg is dealing with the consequences of the night attack and is trying to restore 550 TB of lost data: servers, backups, mail, certificates, the website and the entire infrastructure of the federal site,”

– the hackers said.

Currently, the platform’s website remains inaccessible, all bidding and tenders have been suspended, and there is no clear understanding of when the system will be able to resume its full operation.
