How to confirm automatic extension of disability: instructions from the Ministry of Health

From January 1, 2025, Ukraine has introduced a new system for assessing a person’s daily functioning. In this regard, how to extend the period of disability for disabled Ukrainians who had to undergo re-examination after January 1, but could not do itin time, told in Ministry of Health, reports Komersant ukrainskyi.

How to document the extension of disability

In the specialized Ministry this process was shown on the example of a pension certificate. The pension certificate indicates the period of its validity, which is actually the period for which the disability pension is extended. The Ministry of Health recommends submitting documents to confirm the status of a person with a disability in electronic form: it is convenient and not time-consuming.

How to get an electronic pension certificate?

1. If a person has a paper pension certificate, he/she can form its electronic representation in the mobile application of administrative services “Diya.
2. If a person has an electronic pension certificate, it will also display the current expiration date.
3. If the certificate is issued in the form of an Oschadbank payment card, it is valid until its expiration date or until it is replaced by a new one.

We remind you that the electronic display of the pension certificate has the same legal force as a paper document.

How to add a pension certificate to “Dia”?

1. Open the “Diya” application;
2. Scroll to the document cards;
3. Press “Add document” → “Pension certificate”;
4. Select “Add ID card”;
5. After that, the application will display the certificate with a new expiration date.

Disability situation in Ukraine

In 2025 in Ukraine there is a significant increase in the number of people with disabilities, which is due, in particular, to the consequences of military operations.

The main causes of disability are:

• Congenital malformations: developmental anomalies detected from birth.
• Acquired diseases: chronic diseases developed during life.
• Occupational injuries: injuries or damage sustained during the performance of work duties.
• Occupational diseases: diseases related to working conditions.
• War Injuries: injuries, contusions, and other injuries sustained as a result of combat.

Amounts of payments for people with disabilities in 2025:

The amount of social payments depends on the disability group and the presence of the need for constant care:

• I disability group: 2,760 UAH.
• II and III disability groups (non-working): 2 520 UAH.
• II and III disability groups (working): 2 093 UAH.

The amount of disability pension is calculated as a percentage of the age pension:

• Group I: 100% of the retirement pension.
• Group II: 90% of the retirement pension.
• Group III: 50% of the old-age pension.

These figures are current as of February 2025. Pensions are expected to be indexed in March 2025, which may lead to an increase in these payments.
