The Israeli army has announced the launch of a ground operation in southern Lebanon. According to the IDF, the military launched raids against Hezbollah facilities and infrastructure a few hours ago. This is stated in a statement by the country’s Defence Forces (IDF), Komersant ukrainskyi reports
“Israel has launched limited, localised and targeted raids against the targets of the radical Shiite group Hezbollah in the border area in southern Lebanon,” the IDF said in a statement.
According to the statement, the IDF is acting in accordance with a methodological plan developed by the General Staff and the Northern Command, according to which soldiers have been training and preparing in recent months.
The Israeli air force and IDF artillery are supporting the ground forces by conducting precision strikes against military targets in the area.
Operation Northern Arrows will continue in accordance with the assessment of the situation and in parallel with the fighting in the Gaza Strip and other areas.
According to Reuters, at about midnight, powerful explosions were heard on the southern outskirts of Beirut. Before that, Israel called on the locals to evacuate. The IDF also declared a closed military zone around three border settlements. The Lebanese army retreated from several positions on the southern border with Israel.
Late on Monday evening, 30 September, the Israeli Defence Forces announced that the IDF was conducting a ground operation in southern Lebanon. Israel explained that it was limited in nature and that the raids were against Hezbollah targets on the border.
