The story of “eggs for 17 UAH” has not been proven yet, – Tetiana Nikolaienko

One of the most high-profile procurement scandals of the Ministry of Defence, the “eggs for UAH 17”, has not been proven as a crime. Tetiana Nikolaienko , a well-known member of the Anti-Corruption Public Council of the Ministry of Defence, said this in an interview with the How Not to Become a Vegetable project.
According to the expert, today no one has evidence or facts to confirm that the Ministry of Defence bought eggs from its suppliers at a price of UAH 17 per egg.
“This story has not been proven. I went to see NABU Director Kryvonos. We have contact with NABU. They honestly told us that in order to prove it, we need to raise all the invoices. The catalogue published by Nikolov (a journalist who published a story about the alleged purchase of eggs for the army by the Ministry of Defence at 17 UAH per egg – ed. It is an intention, it is a certain corruption risk, but it is not a proven fact. We still don’t know whether these purchases took place,” said Nikolayenko.
Therefore, according to her, “there can be no criminal proceedings as such” as a result of this story.

The scandal with the “17 eggs” arose after journalist Yuriy Nikolov published a story. The article claimed that the Ministry of Defence was buying eggs for the Armed Forces at prices higher than market prices.
The Ministry of Defence, responding to the scandal, denied the allegations at the time.
