In Lviv region, the Security Service of Ukraine’s military counterintelligence, with the assistance of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, detained a “double” Russian agent who was simultaneously working for the FSB and Russian military intelligence (better known as the game). According to the SBU, the enemy accomplice was an instructor at the Yavoriv training ground, Komersant ukrainskyi reports

His task from the Russian GRU was to prepare terrorist attacks against the commanders of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who, together with their units, were undergoing combat training at the local training center of the Defense Forces.

The agent was given carte blanche by his supervisor to choose the method of liquidation of the Ukrainian military.

Thus, according to one scenario, the traitor had to make an improvised explosive device (IED) and then covertly plant it in the headquarters or training building. The agent also developed a variant of using his colleague in the dark, who was supposed to bring disguised explosives to the commanders’ training location.

Another way of killing, which the mole considered, was a missile attack by the Russians at the coordinates of the current concentration of Ukrainian defenders at the training ground.

The SBU military counterintelligence exposed the hostile intentions in advance, documented them, and detained the traitor as he was preparing elimination proposals for his handler.

Contacts with the FSB and espionage at the training ground

The investigation also revealed the traitor’s contacts with his FSB handler. On his instructions, the agent collected information about the number and specifics of units training at the Yavoriv training ground.

During the searches, the SBU seized 3 phones with SIM cards, which he used to hide his contacts with the occupiers.

Based on the collected evidence, the SBU investigators served him a notice of suspicion under Part 2 Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law).

The offender is in custody without the right to be released on bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
