GUR: Russian VIPs were supposed to be on board IL-76, but only 5 bodies were delivered to Belgorod morgue

25 January 17:17

The Russian military aircraft IL-76, which crashed the day before, was supposed to carry five Russian high-ranking officials, but at the last moment the FSB forbade them to board the plane. This was stated by a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate, Andriy Yusov, in a commentary to Radio Liberty, reports комерсант

“There were indeed several VIPs from the military and political representation of the aggressor state on board. Their names are known and will be revealed, and the materials will be provided as part of an international investigation. But at the last moment, the FSB actually ordered them not to board the plane and to use other means of transport. This information was already found out after the incident happened,”

– yusov said.

In addition, according to the representative of the GUR, it is known that Russian rescuers were forbidden to inspect the crash site. Only representatives of the Russian special services were there. He also drew attention to the fact that photos and videos from the crash site do not show human remains, which should have been visible if there were 65 Ukrainian prisoners of war on board. According to him, only 5 bodies were taken to the local morgue.

“It is known from intelligence data, in particular, that as of yesterday, only five bodies were delivered to the Belgorod morgue. In fact, this number corresponds to the number of crew members of the same IL-76 – the same aircraft that was part of the Russian Aerospace Forces,”

– yusov added.

The situation with the IL-76

  • Some Ukrainian media outlets, citing their own sources, reported that the plane was actually carrying ammunition for S-300 systems.
  • The Main Intelligence Directorate reported that an exchange of prisoners of war was indeed planned for that day, but it did not take place.
  • The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has not yet commented on the situation.
