Hrynkevych is served with a notice of suspicion: almost one billion hryvnias in losses to the state

The State Bureau of Investigation has announced that it has served a notice of suspicion on “a Lviv businessman, one of the largest suppliers to the Ministry of Defence, and members of a criminal organisation that caused almost a billion hryvnias in losses to the state budget of Ukraine”. It has been established that the businessman created a criminal organisation to misappropriate budget funds. He entered into contracts with the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine for the supply of low-quality military clothing. In particular, the Lviv businessman’s companies entered into 23 contracts to supply the Ministry of Defence with clothing worth over UAH 1.5 billion… According to the examinations, the state suffered damage of more than UAH 934 million,”

The five people are charged with creating and participating in a criminal organisation and seizing another’s property by breach of trust (fraud) committed under martial law, in a particularly large scale, by a criminal organisation (Article 190(5), Article 255(1) and 255(2) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). They have been detained and the issue of choosing a measure of restraint is being decided. This article provides for imprisonment for up to 12 years with confiscation of property.
As a reminder, Hrynkevych was detained at the end of last year while trying to bribe one of the heads of the SBI’s Main Investigation Department. He allegedly offered USD 500,000 for assistance in returning the property seized from him. The businessman is currently in custody.
