US General Christopher Cavoli: russia is exhausting its military offensive potential
22 January 12:28
russia does not currently have the military potential to launch a rapid offensive in Ukraine, as it is experiencing problems with manpower. This assessment was made by US General Christopher Cavali, Commander of NATO’s Allied Forces Europe, during a discussion on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos. This was reported by the Voice of America, according to
The American general considers the defense actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to be effective.
“I am not worried that Ukraine may suddenly lose. I do not see the potential for a massive breakthrough (by the Russians). And this is not a political, but a military vision. This is due to the (situation) on both sides – the effective defense that the Ukrainians are putting up, but also the difficulty for the Russian side to create a significant offensive force to make a potential breakthrough,” the NATO military commander emphasized.
According to General Cavoli, this year’s war will see much more small-scale offensives.
“I think we’re going to continue to see this tension between the desire to attack and the lack of manpower on the part of the Russians,” Cavoli added. – “I think that’s going to define the conflict to a large extent.
The impact of a possible reduction in US support for Ukraine
Assessing how the situation on the frontline might change if the new US administration limits military support for Ukraine, Christopher Cavoli first of all expressed doubt that Kyiv has received its last major military aid package and that this is the end of US support.

“First of all, this is hypothetical, we have to be careful with this. Secondly, I would point out a very significant increase in European aid that is being sent to Ukraine, especially in the area of ammunition, there has been a significant increase in the production of artillery shells and missiles from our European allies,” the American commander said, adding that he expects further increases in European support for Kyiv.
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, who also took part in the discussion, supported the American general, emphasizing that Europeans can do more to help Ukraine.
“This is the only way for us to be truly credible when we also ask the American taxpayers: “Please remain committed to what is happening in Ukraine,” the Swedish prime minister emphasized.
The day before, in his speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on Europe to increase spending on defense production and demonstrate unity in security policy. He criticized Europe’s current place in global alliances and technology development, saying, in particular, that Russia produces several times more ammunition and military equipment than all European countries combined.
The Ukrainian president called on Europe to work together with Ukraine to create weapons systems, including air defense, saying that Europe needs its own version of the Iron Dome, capable of handling any type of missile.
