Lieutenant General Serhiy Nayev presented a book about the first months of the full-scale war

The Hero of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Serhiy Ivanovych Nayev, has published a book titled “Strategy of Confrontation”, which records the key events and decisions of the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The author of the memoirs is Yevhen Silkin, an officer of the staff of the Joint Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The book contains eyewitness accounts documenting the first days and months of Russia’s armed aggression, a period when the foundations of defense were being formed, which largely determined the course of further hostilities. A significant part of the material is devoted to the work of the Joint Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Strategy, training and key decisions
The author of the book covers the actions and strategic tasks faced by the Ukrainian military, including the training of personnel, equipment, exercises, and critical command decisions that helped to contain the enemy’s offensive.
The truth is only the truth. This book provides answers to questions and reveals the situation before the war and in the first, decisive months of the war,” Lieutenant General Nayev said in a commentary to journalists "Komersant Ukrainian".
The memoirs pay special attention to the operational actions of the Ukrainian army, which became a turning point for the course of hostilities in the south and east of Ukraine – in particular, in Mykolaiv and Odesa regions and in Donbas. The author reveals previously unknown details of the operations that disrupted the strategic plans of the Russian command.
The book is positioned as an important source for studying the decisions of the Ukrainian military leadership at a critical moment in modern history. It is also aimed at preserving the memory of events that are gradually being erased from public attention, despite their crucial role in preserving the statehood.
Lieutenant General Nayev’s role in the Russian-Ukrainian war
In 2014, he was the head of Sector B during the battle for Donetsk airport.
As of the beginning of 2015, he was the Chief of Staff of the “South” Operational Command.
From 2015 to 2017, he was the commander of the “East” operational command.
In the rank of Lieutenant General in late 2017 – early 2018, he held the position of Chief of Staff – First Deputy Commander of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
on March 7, 2018, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Viktor Muzhenko introduced Serhii Naiev as the newly appointed Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Since March 27, 2020, he has been the Commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
During Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Lieutenant General Serhiy Nayev played a key role in planning and coordinating the actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other defense forces in the Southern direction. He ensured the effective management of units under his direct command or transferred to his operational subordination, focusing on the most critical areas of the front.
In October 2022, he was included in the list of the 25 most influential Ukrainian military from NV.
on February 11, 2024, Serhiy Nayev was dismissed from the post of Commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
