Director General of Nizhnednistrovska HPP suspected of embezzling almost UAH 5 million

The State Bureau of Investigation has served a notice of suspicion to the general director of the Nizhnednistrovska hydroelectric power plant in a case of large-scale embezzlement. This was reported by the press services of the SBI and the Vinnytsia Regional Prosecutor’ s Office, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
According to the investigation, the official organized the scheme with the involvement of the head of the public procurement department and an engineer of the enterprise. They signed contracts with two private companies to carry out repairs at inflated prices. The tender documents, according to law enforcement, were prepared in such a way as to ensure that specific contractors would win.
Despite the violations detected by the State Audit Service and the administrative liability of one of the participants, the contracts were not reviewed. The total value of the agreements amounted to almost UAH 16 million. The contracts concerned the strengthening of structures, arrangement of wastewater systems and repair of hydroelectric power plant infrastructure. According to the expert’s findings, the actual cost of the work should have been UAH 4.8 million less.
on May 7, the SBI conducted searches at the offices and residences of the defendants in the case. Financial documents, digital media, phones, and about UAH 25 million in cash in various currencies were seized.
The three individuals were served a notice of suspicion under Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – misappropriation or embezzlement of property on a large scale committed by an organized group under martial law. The sanction of the article provides for a sentence of up to 12 years in prison.
