Global Teacher Prize Ukraine and SoftServe to honor the best math teacher

This year, the Global Teacher Prize Ukraine, together with the Ukrainian IT company SoftServe, is presenting a nomination for teachers of math, algebra, and geometry. The winner will receive 500 thousand hryvnias to realize their educational dreams, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
Supporting math teachers is key, as math is the foundation of information technology. Investing in quality math education helps prepare young people for successful careers in the IT industry and many other fields.
“My path to IT started at school with school math. Since the sixth grade, I participated in competitions and was lucky that my first teacher was my father, who instilled in me a love of math. Teachers who prepared their students for the Olympiads were like gods to me – it was then that I first realized how important a role they play. School starts with teachers, and we need to work with them, support them, pass on modern methods, and recognize the best ones. Mathematics is the queen of sciences, it shapes thinking and teaches creativity. If a child learns to be creative in math, he or she will be creative in IT, physics, chemistry, and business. That’s why we at SoftServe support math teachers, because we believe that the future of the industry starts at school,” said Taras Kitsmei, co-founder and member of the Board of Directors at SoftServe.
According to the PISA-2022 international study, only 58% of Ukrainian students have reached the basic level of math literacy. The difference between Ukrainian students and their peers from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries is about a year and a half of study.
In addition, the latest NMT results showed that the average score in math was 132.5 out of 200. However, the Ukrainian math school has deep traditions and achievements: our students have repeatedly won medals at the International Mathematical Olympiad.
