The largest art museum in Finland, the Ateneum, now presents the artist Ilya Ripin as a Ukrainian. This is reported by the Finnish edition of Suomen Kuvalehti, reports

In particular, the exhibition “The Question of Time” presents the artist’s painting “Portrait of Elizaveta Zvantseva” with the authorship “Ilya Ripin, Ukrainian”.

The publication reports that the museum changed its positioning of the artist after several contacts with Ukrainian activists who insisted that Ripyn was a Ukrainian.

Previously, before the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, such attempts had failed. For example, in 2021, the museum, together with the Tretyakov Gallery and the Museum of Russian Art, organised a large exhibition of Ilya Ripin’s works. The exhibition stated that the artist was born in what is now Ukraine, but he was represented as a Russian.
