Finland has announced that it plans to complete the construction of a fence on the eastern border with Russia earlier. This was reported by Yle, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.

As noted, the construction of a 200 km long fence on the eastern border is ahead of schedule. According to the newspaper, the fence will be completed a few months sooner.

“The fence will be mostly completed this year. Only some sections will be completed in 2026,” said Markku Hassinen, head of the Border Guard.

According to preliminary estimates, the fence was to be completed only by the end of 2026.

In 2023, the Finnish Border Guard initiated the construction of a wall on the border with Russia due to “recent security developments.”

In the same year, test sections of the fence were built in Imatra and Salla. Last year, a partial fence was also built in Vaalimaa.

It is noted that the height of the fence will be 3.5 meters.
