A film about the war in Ukraine has been nominated for a BAFTA award: who else is on the list

The British short film Rock, Paper, Scissors, starring Ukrainian actor Oleksandr Rudynskyi, has been nominated for a BAFTA award. This was reported on the BAFTA website, Komersant ukrainskyi reports

The film will compete for the award in the Best British Short Film category.

The short film Rock, Scissors, Paper, directed by Franz Boom, is based on real events that took place in Ukraine in the winter of 2022. Ukrainian actor Oleksandr Rudynskyi played the main role in the film, and Serhiy Kalantai played his father.

The film also stars Ukrainian actor Yuriy Radionov and Oleksandr Yatsenko, who previously played in the play Viy by Russian director Kirill Serebrennikov.

The plot of the film tells the story of Ivan, whose father works as a surgeon in a hospital and who begins to operate on wounded soldiers and civilians in a local bunker. When the Russian invaders find out about the shelter, 18-year-old Ivan (Oleksandr Rudynskyi) takes up arms and goes to the battlefield to protect his family and the wounded.

The award ceremony will take place on the night of February 16 at the Royal Festival Hall in London.

The Conclave is the leader in the number of nominations, with 12 out of 25 categories, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress. The French film Emilia Perez received 11 nominations, and The Brutalist – nine.
