“How did I come back in the first set from 1-4 down? I just tried to fight, to find that warrior spirit. That’s the only thing I can do when things are not going my way – just calm down and work. The team helped me stay on the right track. I am very happy that I was able to get back into the game and win in two sets,”
– said the tennis player in a post-match blitz interview.
This victory was Svitolina’s 29th at the Australian Open, which equals her best result at all Grand Slams. This is the fourth quarterfinal for the Ukrainian tennis player since returning to the sport after the birth of her child – she previously reached this stage at Roland Garros 2023 and twice in a row at Wimbledon in 2023 and 2024.
In the next match, which will take place on the night of Tuesday, January 21, Svitolina will meet American Madison Keys, who knocked out sixth-seeded Yelena Rybakina from the tournament.
Svitolina was the only Ukrainian player to reach the fourth round of the singles tournament at this year’s Australian Open.
