Electronic weapons permit: when will it appear and what will it look like (video)
1 November 12:08By the end of January 2025, weapons permits will be displayed in the mobile application of administrative services “Diia”. This was announced by Deputy Interior Minister Leonid Tymchenko during a national telethon, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.
According to him, the launch of the electronic weapons registry will definitely take place when the last paper permit-book is converted into electronic form – in June 2026 .
Leonid Tymchenko added that over the year of operation of the Unified Register of Weapons, the police received more than 483,000 applications for various types of permits, of which the police made more than 469,000 decisions to issue the relevant permits.
“In total, the National Police of Ukraine currently has over 1 million 400 thousand weapons registered. More than 750 thousand or more than 50% of the weapons registered by the National Police are included in the Unified Register of Weapons,” said the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs.
What is known about the electronic weapons permit
- it will have a QR code that can be used for verification;
- information about registered weapons will be available for those owners who hold paper permits with valid validity periods and whose data are digitized by police units”
- the only exception is award weapons, which have no expiration date, so there is no need to convert them into electronic form.
How to obtain a permit to purchase, store and carry weapons
To obtain such a permit, you must apply to the National Police of Ukraine with an application and a package of documents.
Documents to be submitted for the service:
- an application for a permit to purchase a weapon addressed to the head of the police department at the applicant’s place of residence;
- a completed application form;
- a certificate of study of the material part of the weapon, special means, rules of handling and use of them;
- a document confirming the actual place of residence of the citizen (lease agreement for residential premises, certificate of ownership of residential premises, etc.), if the actual residence of the citizen is different from that indicated in the passport;
- copies of pages 1, 2 and 11 of the passport of the citizen of Ukraine;
- medical certificate;
- a payment document (payment order, receipt) with a stamp of a bank, post office or transaction code on the payment for the provision of the relevant paid service.
The applicant can receive the results of the service in person.
