Kyiv is facing the threat of a blackout on the eve of winter. This statement was made by Stanislav Ignatiev, Chairman of the Board of the Ukrainian Renewable Energy Association, on November 8 on Novosti.LIVE, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.

He emphasized that at least 150 MW of generating capacity is needed to ensure emergency power supply to the capital’s utilities. In addition, Lviv may face a similar scenario.

“When there is no stable power supply, either because of a shortage of electricity, and we will soon feel it, or because of shelling, or perhaps it will be a synergy of these two factors, for example, it is necessary to ensure the delivery of heat to every home, and this requires electricity. Unfortunately, neither Kyiv nor Lviv, as far as I know, have passed this test,” Ignatiev said.

Earlier, the expert said that in winter in Kyiv, residents of floors above the 9th may be left without heating during power outages. According to him, it is possible to raise the heat to such a height by providing the pumping group with generators. But this will require a huge amount of fuel.

“The heating will be supplied in winter. The question is, where will it be generated from? And the second question is how to bring this heating to the high-rise buildings? A thermal power plant can provide pressure up to the 9th floor. I live in a 24-storey building, and it will be a difficult situation if the pumping group is not provided with additional generators,” Ignatiev said.

He added that the sewerage system will continue to operate without electricity.
