The former head of the Dnipro Regional Road Administration has been served with a notice of suspicion of possible involvement in a corruption scheme during road repairs in the region, which caused damage worth more than UAH 286 million. Law enforcement officers do not name the suspects, but note that among them is the former head of the Dnipro Regional Road Administration. Reznichenko held this position at the time of the crime. President Volodymyr Zelenskyi dismissed Reznichenko from his post on 24 January 2023.
The former deputy head of the Dnipro Regional State Administration, the former head of a department of the Dnipro Regional State Administration, the former head of the Road Department of the Dnipro Regional State Administration, and the head of a business entity were also served with a notice of suspicion.
All five defendants have been notified of suspicion of abuse of office. The maximum sentence is six years in prison.
In 2022, the legislation in force under martial law reportedly allowed for priority funding for road maintenance, while spending on current and major road repairs was only possible as a last resort.
In order to obtain priority funding, the suspects replaced the information in the relevant documents about the need for current and capital repairs of roads with the need for their maintenance.
The cost of such maintenance was artificially and unreasonably increased to UAH 1.5 billion. This amount was used to conclude contracts for the relevant works with a company associated with the head of the Dnipro Regional State Administration, which overestimated the cost of materials by more than UAH 286 million.
Journalists previously wrote that it was the company of Reznichenko’s companion.
The defendants subsequently withdrew part of these funds to the accounts of other companies associated with the top official and his deputy.
