Polish President Andrzej Duda has criticised Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysh’s statement about blocking Ukraine’s accession to the EU. Duda noted that such statements “are part of Putin’s policy”. This was reported by Komersant ukrainskyi with reference to his interview with Polsat News.
“I tried to act in such a way as not to create points of tension between Warsaw and Kyiv… It was not easy, because we have complex problems. But I also talked about these issues with President Zelenskyy, and the best example of this was the president’s presence in Lutsk” on the anniversary of the Volyn massacre, Duda said.
According to him, finding agreement with us on all complex issues, including historical ones, is also in Ukraine’s favour.
“Finding agreement with us on all complex issues, including historical ones, is also in Ukraine’s interest. Remember that Ukrainians have a lot of problems with their past from the Second World War,” he added.
The president was asked about the statement by Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosyniak-Kamisz, who said that if the Volyn issue between Warsaw and Kyiv is not resolved, he believes that Ukraine has no place in the European Union.
Duda noted that Putin attacked Ukraine to stop its integration with the EU.
“If someone says that he will block Ukraine’s access to the European Union, this is in line with Vladimir Putin’s policy. Well, I don’t know if this is the intention of the current government,” the president said.
At the same time, Duda said that “these are complex issues that need to be taken into account”.
“I would like to know what exactly ministers and prime ministers mean when they make such statements. These are complicated issues, including those that have been kept silent for years by Ukrainians themselves, which must be taken into account,” Duda said.
