12 March 05:17

The largest number of road accidents caused by Ukrainian insurers occurred in Poland, Germany and Romania (under Green Card certificates). This was reported by the Motor (Transport) Insurance Bureau of Ukraine (MTIBU), Komersant ukrainskyi reports

In 2024, Ukrainian insurance companies paid more than EUR 50.5 million in insurance compensation to victims of road accidents abroad caused by Ukrainian drivers under international Green Card insurance contracts. A total of 15,926 cases were settled, which is 5.32% more than in 2023.

Countries with the largest number of settled accidents involving Ukrainian drivers:

  • Poland: 35.1% of cases (5,503 cases), EUR 11.12 million paid out.
  • Germany: 20% (3,194 cases), EUR 15.26 million.
  • Romania: 6.3% (1,017 cases), EUR 3.75 million.
  • Czech Republic: 6.1% (977 cases), EUR 3.01 million.
  • Italy: 4% (648 cases), EUR 3.01 million.

The MTIBU advises Ukrainian drivers who plan to travel abroad in their own cars to take care of reliable insurance coverage in advance and take out a Green Card policy. This insurance certificate is valid in 48 countries participating in the system and provides compensation to victims of road accidents caused by the insured driver. Since the costs of car repairs and medical services abroad can be significant, having a valid Green Card will help you avoid unforeseen financial expenses.

The insurance coverage complies with the laws of the country where the accident occurred. For example, in Poland, the maximum compensation amounts are EUR 5.21 million for damage to life and health and EUR 1.05 million for damaged property. In most countries, these limits reach millions of euros, and in some cases can be unlimited. Before traveling, you should familiarize yourself with the terms of insurance coverage in the country you plan to visit.
