The Ryazan oil refinery in Russia has temporarily shut down after a Ukrainian drone attack on the night of February 24, which caused a fire at the main oil distillation unit. This was reported by Reuters, citing three industry sources, Komersant ukrainskyi reports

According to the agency, the main crude distillation unit at the ELOU-6 refinery caught fire as a result of the impact, and the plant completely suspended oil refining.

The unit has a capacity of about 170,000 barrels per day, or about 48% of the refining capacity. According to the sources, the refinery’s management may use the primary distillation units ELOU-4 and ELOU-3 while ELOU-6 is under repair.

In 2024, the Ryazan refinery processed 13.1 million tons of oil (262,000 barrels per day), which is about 5% of the total oil refining volume in Russia. According to the sources, the refinery produced 2.3 million tons of gasoline, 3.4 million tons of diesel fuel, 4.2 million tons of fuel oil and 1 million tons of jet fuel.
