Donald Trump declares “invalid” pardons approved by Biden

US President Donald Trump has declared pardons approved by his predecessor Joe Biden invalid due to the use of an automatic signature.

Trump wrote about this on his social network Truth Social, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.

“The pardons that Sleepy Joe Biden granted to the Unelected Committee of Political Thugs and many others are declared invalid, void, and of no further force or effect because they were made by Autopen,” he said.

What is Autopen?

The Autopen used by Biden is a device used by politicians, executives, and celebrities to sign a large number of documents.

It works as follows: a pen is mounted on a special mechanism that moves across a sheet of paper, imitating a person’s signature. This device can be programmed to make the signature look like a handwritten one.

According to the Economic Times, in particular, US presidents and officials use this device to sign bills, decrees, and official correspondence.

Trump also claimed that Biden did not even know about the pardons and could not approve these documents.

“He didn’t know anything about them, and the people who did it may have committed a crime. Therefore, those who were members of the Pardons Committee, who destroyed and deleted ALL the evidence obtained during the two-year witch hunt against me and many other innocent people, must be fully aware that they are subject to investigation at the highest level,” the US president emphasized.

In addition, Trump emphasized that it was the Pardons Committee staff who were responsible for the signed documents and that they did so without the knowledge of “the worst president in our country’s history, the fraud Joe Biden.”

On his Truth Social page, Donald Trump posted a post showing “portraits” of presidents from previous cadences: his for 2017-2021, his current portrait, and a fountain pen with Biden’s signature in between.

What pardons are we talking about?

On his last day in office, former U.S. President Joe Biden announced a preventive pardon for a number of high-ranking officials who had been criticized by Republicans. The former president pardoned the following:

  • former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Milley;
  • former chief medical adviser to the president, Dr. Anthony Fauci;
  • members and staff of the Special Committee to investigate the attack on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.

At the time, Biden said that civil servants were constantly threatened and intimidated for performing their duties in good faith.

According to CNN, this pardon was “unprecedented” in US history – there have never been previous pardons on such a large scale. At the time, there were no threats of legal action against any of the officials on Biden’s list.
