Profitable business: how big restaurants and hotels in Ukraine make money

Last year, the total revenue of restaurants and hotels represented in the Index of enterprises in this industry, which is determined by Opendatabot, increased by 10% to UAH 28.22 billion. This is reported on the platform’s website, "Komersant Ukrainian" informs.

As noted in the report, despite the fact that 8 representatives of the list increased their income, only 6 of them were able to make a profit. The top ten includes 6 restaurant chains, 2 suppliers of ready meals and 2 hotels.

Who among the representatives of the hotel and restaurant business has the highest revenue and profit

McDonald’s became the leader in both indicators. The chain’s revenue grew by almost a third to UAH 16.84 billion, and its profit amounted to UAH 1.59 billion. This is the highest profit among all the businesses in the top ten.

The second place was taken by a newcomer to the Index: “Contract Prodreserve 5 from Dnipropetrovs’k region. The company’s revenue grew 1.5 times to UAH 4.44 billion, and its profit increased 1.6 times over the year to UAH 122.7 million.

“Puzata Khata (operated by Opercom) is also among the top three with the largest revenue growth over the year, up 1.5 times (UAH 1.47 billion). Despite this, the chain ended the year with a loss of UAH 37.4 million.

Three places in the Index were taken by companies operating under the KFC brand:

testi Food, owned by Valeriy Kiptyk (co-owner of Varus and Eva), took the 4th place. The company’s revenue did not change over the year and amounted to UAH 1.03 billion. Also, its profit decreased 5.7 times to UAH 29 million.

Next is Global Restaurant Group-Ukraine, founded by Barillium Investments (USA). Its revenue amounted to UAH 982.9 million, up 19% year-on-year. At the same time, losses increased by 2.4 times over the year to UAH 155.8 million.

DTS-Kharkiv ranked sixth with revenue of UAH 771.9 million. Despite the fact that revenue grew by a quarter over the year, profit decreased 30 times to UAH 10.5 million.

The seventh and eighth positions were shared by hotel operators: “Parktour (Bukovel) and International Business Center (Hilton Kyiv). Their revenues grew by 31% and 27%, respectively. However, Parktur’s profit decreased by 50 times to UAH 40.6 million, and the International Business Center suffered a loss of UAH 169 million.

Atomservice was ranked 9th. Last year was not very successful for the company: revenue decreased almost 7 times, while profit decreased 33 times to UAH 16.3 million.

“Domino’s Pizza Ukraine rounds out the top ten. The chain increased its revenue 1.5 times to UAH 550 million and halved its losses to UAH 16.6 million.

McDonald’s is the most expensive restaurant brand in the world

The total value of the 25 most expensive restaurant brands in the world reached USD 174.9 billion. This is stated in the report of the consulting company Brand Finance.

For the first time in almost 10 years, McDonald’s has surpassed Starbucks in the competition for the title of the most expensive restaurant brand.

The value of the Starbucks chain fell by 36% to $38.8 billion, while the value of the McDonald’s brand increased by 7% to $40.5 billion. This allowed the latter to take the top spot in the ranking and push its competitor to second place.

KFC (brand value increased by 8% to USD 15.4 billion), Subway (brand value increased by 12% to USD 8.1 billion) and Taco Bell (brand value decreased by 3% to USD 6.9 billion) retained the third, fourth and fifth places in the ranking.
