During a meeting between government representatives and publishers, Economy Minister Yulia Svyrydenko emphasized that in December Ukrainians will be able to receive additional social support – a thousand hryvnias that can be used for utilities, donations to the Armed Forces, or the purchase of books.
This initiative is aimed at restoring the book publishing industry, which has suffered significant losses since the beginning of the war, and gives readers the opportunity to receive up to 10% of the cost of purchasing Ukrainian books.
Minister of Culture Mykola Tochytskyi also announced that Ukrainians who have turned 18 will soon receive certificates for the purchase of Ukrainian books worth UAH 900.
The state will also support bookstores with subsidies to cover rent, which will help expand the network of bookstores across Ukraine.
Representatives of the book publishing industry emphasized that the ePublishing program introduced in 2021 has had a positive impact. Thanks to this initiative, Ukrainians spent UAH 1.2 billion on books from December 2021 to February 2022.
