Days without power outages cancelled: what will be the schedules

8 July 2024 20:02

From 9 to 24 July, NPC Ukrenergo will not measure the actual level of consumption in each region. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" reports with reference to the official Telegram channel of the national energy company.

Ukrenergo informed that it had previously planned to cancel the restrictions for each region on a specific day within two weeks according to a certain schedule.

The reason for the cancellation is a significant power shortage in the power system and increased consumption due to the heat. In response to numerous requests from regional power distribution companies, Ukrenergo cancels the metering during this period. In such conditions, regional power distribution companies will not be able to comply with the principle of uniformity of consumption restrictions when conducting measurements in a particular region.

Routine measurements in the summer will be carried out later, when the situation in the power system allows and the air temperature drops.

Schedules of power outages on 9 July

The National Energy Company has also announced the schedules of power outages for Tuesday, 9 July.

The restrictions will be in effect throughout the day for all regions of Ukraine. According to the forecast, from 05:00 to 14:00, regional power distribution companies will apply 2 stages of blackout schedules, from 16:00 to 22:00 – 4 stages of blackout schedules, and at other times – 3 stages.

Current situation in the energy sector

This morning, 8 July, Ukrenergo’s dispatch centre recorded consumption below the forecast level. The decrease in consumption in the morning after the weekend and the accumulated reserve in the system made it possible to reduce the scope of restrictions. And from 10:30 to 14:00, the restrictions were cancelled for all regions of Ukraine.

The main reason for the hourly outage schedules is the impact of eight missile and drone strikes on Ukrainian power plants carried out by the Russians since the beginning of this year. The losses of the Ukrainian power system exceed 9 GW of capacity. This capacity is equivalent to the peak summer consumption of the Netherlands or Finland.

The power shortage in the system is also affected by increased consumption due to the summer heat.

504 settlements remain without power. Due to the hostilities, there are new blackouts in Dnipropetrovska, Donetska, Zaporizka, Sumska, Kharkivska, Khersonska, Chernihivska oblasts.

For technical reasons, consumers in Volyn, Dnipropetrovska, Zaporizka, Ivano-Frankivska, Sumska, Chernihivska oblasts lost power.
