Children under fire: where in Ukraine the zone of forced evacuation has been expanded

27 March 21:04

Donetsk region has decided to expand the zone of forced evacuation of families with children. This was reported by Komersant ukrainskyi with reference to Vadim Filashkin‘s Telegram channel.

This was a response to the growing number of shelling incidents that threaten the lives of civilians, including children. The decision was made by the Regional Commission on Technogenic and Environmental Safety and Emergencies.

Which settlements are to be evacuated?

According to the order, forced evacuation of children together with their parents or legal representatives was announced in the following settlements:

  • Kryvyi Rih community: the villages of Krasnopodillya, Matyasheve, Novohryshyne.
  • Dobropole community: the town of Bilytske, the villages of Vodyane, Chernihivka, Svitloe, Shevchenko.
  • Druzhkivka community: villages of Kurtivka, Kindrativka, Osykovo.
  • Lyman community: Novoselivka village, Shandryholove village.

In total, these settlements are home to about 500 children whose lives are under direct threat due to the intensification of hostilities.

Why did you decide to evacuate?

The enemy’s shelling has become much more intense in recent weeks. The enemy strikes not only at the frontline positions, but also at relatively rear settlements. As a result, children are becoming victims of attacks, and the risk to their lives and health is increasing every day.

The local authorities emphasize that the forced evacuation is a necessary step aimed at saving the lives of the most vulnerable people. The evacuation will also help relieve local hospitals and social services that are currently operating in emergency conditions.

How will the evacuation take place?

The evacuation will be carried out with the support of government agencies, volunteer organizations and international humanitarian missions. Residents will be able to use

  • organized evacuation buses for safe transportation;
  • temporary housing in safer regions of Ukraine;
  • humanitarian aid, including food, medicine and basic necessities;
  • psychological support for children and adults who have survived the shelling and evacuation.

The regional centers will provide all necessary information on evacuation routes, gathering points and contact points for assistance.

The authorities once again urge citizens not to ignore the warnings and make a decision in favor of the safety of their children. Evacuation is not only a protection from shelling, but also an opportunity to receive proper medical and social assistance. The local authorities emphasize that the evacuation is a temporary measure, and once the situation stabilizes, people will be able to return to their homes.

In the event of further deterioration of the situation, the forced evacuation zone may be further expanded. The authorities are monitoring the security situation in real time and are ready to respond promptly.

Where in Ukraine the forced evacuation is currently in effect

1. Donetsk region. The most difficult situation is observed in the frontline towns and villages, in particular in the areas of Avdiivka, Bakhmut and Maryinka. The evacuation mainly affects women, children, the elderly and people with disabilities.

2. Luhansk region. Some settlements under the threat of intense hostilities are subject to mandatory evacuation. Residents are offered evacuation routes to safer regions of Ukraine.

3. Kherson region. Due to constant shelling and the threat of flooding as a result of the destruction of critical infrastructure, evacuations are underway from coastal areas and towns near the front line.

4. Zaporizhzhia region. Settlements near the temporarily occupied territories are in the zone of increased danger. Evacuation corridors are organized for the evacuation of civilians.

5. Kharkiv region. Forced evacuation is carried out in communities that are constantly under fire and are at risk due to their proximity to the Russian border.

How does the evacuation take place?

People are evacuated in organized convoys, providing them with transportation, medical care and temporary housing. The government and volunteer organizations are providing humanitarian aid and facilitating the resettlement of evacuees in safer regions.
