U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Jim Risch were unable to reach Germany due to a technical malfunction of the plane. The aircraft on which they were traveling to the Munich Security Conference was forced to return to Washington. This is reported by the Associated Press, Komersant ukrainskyi informs.

According to the Associated Press, the C-32, which is a modified version of the Boeing 757, took off from Joint Base Andrews late Thursday night.

“Tonight, on the way from Washington to Munich, the plane carrying Secretary Rubio experienced a mechanical problem. The plane has turned around and is returning to Joint Base Andrews,” said State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce.

One official told the AP that the problem occurred about 90 minutes after the plane took off from Joint Base Andrews near Washington. This is due to the windshield of the C-32, a converted Boeing 757.

Because of this, the command decided to return the ship to the military base.

What do you know about further plans?

US State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce said that Marco Rubio intends to continue his trip to Germany and the Middle East on another plane.

However, it remains to be seen whether this delay will affect the planned meeting between the US Secretary of State and Vice President J.D. Vance with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The talks are scheduled to take place on Friday morning in Munich as part of the Munich Security Conference.
