Investigators: MP Nikolayenko faces 8 years in prison for fatal road accident

The State Bureau of Investigation has completed an investigation into Ukrainian MP Andriy Nikolayenko, who committed a fatal road accident in Zhytomyr region on 3 November 2023. He faces imprisonment for up to 8 years, Kommersant Ukrainian reports citing the SBI press service.
According to the investigation, the deputy was driving 40-50 km/h over the speed limit, which was confirmed by an expert examination. the 18-year-old girl was crossing the road at the time. According to law enforcement, if not for the speeding, the driver could have reacted to the girl and avoided the accident.

It is also known that the MP is a persistent violator of traffic rules. In 2022-2023 alone, he received 22 decisions to bring him to administrative responsibility for traffic violations.
Under Part 2 of Art. 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the MP is liable to imprisonment for up to 8 years.
The MP is currently free on his own recognisance.
Andriy Nikolayenko was born on 23 June 1979 in Fastiv, Kyiv region. He is a Ukrainian politician and diplomat, former head of the Osnova party, member of the Batkivshchyna party, and the first head of the State Agency for the Restoration of Donbas.
