Democrat Cory Booker has been speaking in the Senate for 17 hours
1 April 21:22
Democratic politician Cory Booker began his speech in the Senate the day before to express his criticism of the policies of the administration of US President Donald Trump. His speech has been going on for 17 hours.
This is evidenced by a broadcast from the Senate, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.
According to the New York Times, the New Jersey senator criticized the president’s plans for social security, education, immigration, and health care.
In his speech, he also mentioned foreign policy. Booker said that Trump was “turning away” from NATO, “praising” Russian President Vladimir Putin, and calling Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy a “dictator.” He also recalled threats to Panama and Greenland and the renaming of the Gulf of Mexico.
“He did not tell us that he was going to do all these things, he did not promise. He promised to lower food prices, but they are higher. He promised he would be better for the economy – it’s worse than we inherited (referring to the state of the economy under Joe Biden’s presidency – ed.
Booker began his speech on March 31 at 19:00 local time and as of April 1 at 12:00 (19:00 Kyiv time) it continues. The politician said he was going to continue.
It should be noted that he does not speak continuously. Booker’s colleagues from the Senate are asking him questions during his speech. In addition, the speech is not a flip-flop, as it does not take place during a debate on a particular bill or candidate. However, it is unclear how the scheduled Senate session will go.
Before the speech, Booker explained that he went to the Senate because Trump and Elon Musk “have demonstrated a complete disregard for the rule of law, the Constitution, and the needs of the American people.”
“In just 71 days, the President of the United States has done so much damage to American security, financial stability, and the foundations of our democracy. These are not normal times in America,” the Democrat said.
