16 April 19:25
Maundy Thursday is a special day for all believers, symbolizing the purification of the soul and body, liberation from all the old, and preparation for the feast of the Resurrection of Christ. This holiday always falls on the last Thursday before Easter, so in 2025, Maundy Thursday will be celebrated on April 17.
Our ancestors believed that water gained magical powers on this day and helped to get rid of negativity. On this day, it is important to observe certain traditions and prohibitions that have been passed down from generation to generation for centuries.
What should you do on Maundy Thursday?
1. Cleanse the body
This day should be started with bathing or washing. It is advisable to do this before sunrise, and, if possible, to give preference to bathing in a natural body of water or at least just pouring water from a river or well. It is believed that on this day, water can wash away all diseases, sins, and negativity. To enhance the energetic effect, you can add various herbs to the water, such as mint or thyme or salt.
2. General cleaning of the house
On Maundy Thursday, it is also customary to clean up the house. That’s why it’s imperative to do a general cleaning on this day: take out old things, broken dishes, and remove dust and dirt. It is advisable to take out the garbage before sunset, while saying the following words: “Everything bad is out, let the house be bright and clean!”
Some housewives also do energy cleaning of their homes: they light a candle and walk around all the corners with it, cleansing the house of bad energy and evil spirits.
What rituals and ceremonies are performed on Maundy Thursday?
- Ritual to attract money
To improve your financial situation, you need to count all your money three times early in the morning, saying the following words: “As many times as I count, so many times will it multiply. Let it be so!”.
- Ritual for energy purification
After general cleaning, you need to take a candle, stand in front of a mirror and say three times: “Purify me, fire and water, let all evil disappear, let there be light in me and around me.” After the ritual, it is important to extinguish the candle with your fingers, not by blowing it out.
- Preparing the Thursday salt
One of the oldest magical rituals is the preparation of the so-called Thursday salt. Our ancestors believed that this salt had powerful magical properties: it cleanses, protects, heals, and drives away evil spirits. To make Thursday salt, you need to mix salt, rye flour, and herbs (wormwood, thyme, mint, juniper, etc.). Stir the salt clockwise only, and then, if possible, fry it in a frying pan or oven until it turns black.
Thursday salt should be prepared on the night of Wednesday or Thursday morning, and before frying, the Lord’s Prayer should be recited three times. The finished salt should be crushed, poured into a bag or some kind of glass container, and then used as needed. Thursday salt can be used in the following ways:
– Sprinkle Thursday salt around the house or place a bag of salt on the window to protect against evil forces;
– Add this salt to dishes for ailments;
– Carry a bag of salt as a talisman against envy, evil people, and energy vampires.
