Will there be a solution to traffic during alarms: KCMA head sharply responds to Klitschko

29 January 21:02

The newly appointed head of the Kyiv City Military Administration , Timur Tkachenko, has responded sharply to today’s accusations of Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko of attempts to unbalance and usurp power in the city. Tkachenko said that the problems of the city have not been solved for years, reports Komersant ukrainskyi.

“Apparently, the mayor is not aware of what is happening in the capital. Now I own a house on Zhylianska Street. This is a historic building in the city. The house has not been restored for three years. And there is still no decision on what to do with this building. That is, the city hasn’t dealt with this house for more than two years. There are much more than one such building in the city,”

– tkachenko said in the video.

According to him, Klitschko finds time to record the video, but the real problems of the city have not been solved for years.

“Many Kyiv residents are waiting for help from the capital’s authorities after the Russian strikes. Even the burnt cars have been removed from the streets only recently. And not after the mayor’s decision,”

– tkachenko added.

He noted that yesterday he had a completely working conversation with the mayor of Kyiv about further work, but today, for some reason, it was followed by accusations.

He added that, unlike Klitschko, he would not engage in political shows, but would work for Kyiv residents. He also emphasized that one of his top priorities is to solve the problem of traffic during air raids.

“Today, together with Kyiv residents, representatives of the public sector, we discussed the issue of public transport during air raids. We are looking for a comprehensive solution together with the military and the Emergency Service. Of course, the safety of Kyiv residents is a priority,”

– tkachenko said.

As you know, Kyiv remains the only city in Ukraine where ground public transportation is suspended during air raid alerts. Notably, the movement of minibuses is not prohibited. Therefore, during the alert, citizens are forced to use this type of transport, and the owners of the routes receive additional income.

Kyiv residents are constantly complaining about this situation – even in frontline cities like Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia, public transportation is still running during the alert. However, Mayor Klitschko stubbornly refuses to restore normal traffic.

“Populist decisions that public transport should run during alarms can lead to tragedy. And it is not those who demand not to stop transport who will be responsible. And not those who promise to do so in order to collect likes and be liked. The worst populism is populism during the war. I am not engaged in it and will not be!”

– the mayor wrote on Telegram on January 15.

As reported, on the eve of the New Year, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy appointed Artur Tkachenko as the new head of the KMMA. Today, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko accused him of blocking key economic issues and trying to take over the mayor’s powers.

“The new head of the KCSA, who has no military education or experience and has replaced combat generals, is blocking the resolution of key economic issues. Restoration of damaged buildings, compensation to affected residents, restoration of infrastructure and others. This destabilizes the city’s governance and threatens the life support of the capital. At the same time, the head of the KCSA is trying to take over the powers of the mayor, city council and KCSA, violating the law,”

– this is how the mayor described the situation.

In response, Tkachenko promised to introduce a “working group on transparency and accountability” despite the resistance of the city authorities, although he did not explain what this meant.
