Is Donald Trump facing a third impeachment: what the Democrats are up to?
6 May 14:42
The initiative to impeach Donald Trump has reappeared in the US Congress. on April 28, Democratic Congressman Sri Thanedar submitted a list of seven charges against the current president to the House of Representatives, accusing him of obstruction of justice, abuse of power, bribery, and threatening democracy. US President Donald Trump, on the other hand, lashed out at the Democrats and called them “crazy.” However, how serious is the attempt to impeach him?
There have already been attempts to impeach Trump – twice. And each time they were clearly political in nature. This was discussed in an exclusive commentary for
“Now we see the Democratic Party moving in this direction again. But so far, it is nothing more than talk. I don’t see any real grounds that are formalized in a legally correct procedure,” Yahodzinsky said.
According to the professor, impeachment in the United States is an extremely complex and multi-stage procedure. And most importantly, it is highly dependent on the political situation in Congress.
“First, the House of Representatives votes. For impeachment to pass, a simple majority of votes is required. But now this chamber is controlled by the Republican Party, which, of course, will not oppose its candidate. Even if some Republicans have grievances against Trump, they are not so large-scale as to jeopardize the entire party,” explains Sergiy Yagodzinsky.
And when it comes to the Senate, two-thirds of the votes are required, which is 67 senators.
“The Senate is also controlled by Republicans. And this is where the fun begins: for Republicans to support Trump’s impeachment, the charges must be so serious, so obvious, that acting against him becomes a matter of conscience, not politics. But I don’t see any such charges,” Yahodzinsky emphasizes.
The professor also draws attention to the fact that it is beneficial for the Democrats to play up the impeachment issue without even bringing it to a conclusion. This is most likely a political strategy. The Democrats are forming an anti-mobilization agenda, gathering voters who oppose Trump.
“There is a kind of attempt to consolidate the protest electorate against the backdrop of loud statements. But they are taking a risk: a failed impeachment attempt will only strengthen Trump’s position,” believes Sergiy Yagodzinsky.
“American society does not like destructiveness. And impeachment without a real chance of success will be perceived as cheap PR, the professor is sure. This could hit the rating of the Democratic Party itself, especially before the 2026 elections. In addition, there are simply no legal grounds as of today.
“I have not heard of a single executed, signed document that would contain an evidence base, not political statements. At the moment, it is emotions and an attempt to play on the image of the enemy,” Serhiy Yahodzinsky said.
According to the doctor of philosophy, this “noise” will not have any real continuation and we should not expect this initiative to develop in the legal or institutional field.
“This is more of a political gesture, an information campaign designed to remind voters of the controversial nature of Trump’s figure. But nothing more. And if the Democrats do go further, it will be a very risky step that could backfire on them,” summarizes Sergiy Yagodzinsky.
Trump calls for expulsion of Democrats from Congress over new impeachment attempt
US President Donald Trump has reacted sharply to another initiative of the Democratic Party to impeach him. On his social network Truth Social, he called the authors of the initiative “radical left-wing lunatics” and called on the Republican majority to consider expelling them from Congress.
“Democrats are really out of control. They’ve lost everything – especially their minds! These radical left-wing lunatics are back at it again with ‘impeachment,'” Trump wrote.
Although he did not name specific names, it is clear that he is referring to Democratic congressmen who recently announced new articles of impeachment in Congress. Among them is Shri Thanedar, who in late April accused Trump of ignoring the Constitution, destroying democratic institutions and threatening national security.
Trump, in turn, called the initiators “complete lunatics” who, he said, have proposed impeaching him for the twentieth time, “without having any idea what for.”
“Perhaps for cleaning up the mess they left at the border, or for the highest inflation in the country’s history, or for the incompetent withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan? Or maybe for Russia, Russia, Russia/Ukraine, Ukraine, Ukraine, Ukraine? Or for the attack on Israel on October 7?” the president sneered.
According to him, impeachment has become a weapon of the Democrats against him as a president who is trying to save the country. He emphasized that Republicans should seriously consider initiating the expulsion of their opponents from Congress “for all the crimes they have committed, especially on the eve of the elections.”
“They are complete lowlifes who hate our country and everything it stands for. Maybe we should start playing this game with them and kick the Democrats out for their real crimes,” Trump said.
As a reminder, Congressman Shri Thanedar presented seven counts of charges, including obstruction of justice, abuse of power, usurpation of authority, bribery, and corruption. At the same time, political experts have already stated that there is no chance of a successful impeachment proceeding given the Republican Party’s control of both houses of Congress.
