No blackouts are expected on Ukraine’s Independence Day, 24 August. This was reported by Komersant ukrainskyi with reference to the Telegram channel of “Ukrenergo Telegram channel.
The power company assured that if circumstances change that will force it to apply blackout schedules, it will promptly notify Ukrainians.
What is the current situation with the energy sector in Ukraine?
Today, 23 August, the power sector have restored power supply to almost 80,000 consumers who had been without electricity due to the fighting and technological disruptions. The Ukrainian power grid also received emergency assistance from Slovakia yesterday.
However, the situation in the power system remains difficult. The system remains sensitive due to significant damage caused by massive attacks. In addition, Russian troops continue daily shelling of energy facilities, particularly in the frontline and border regions. Substations and power lines suffer the most damage.
Also today it became knownthat another nuclear power unit has come out of scheduled maintenance ahead of schedule. Power engineers say that this will add 1000 MW of capacity and stability to the power system and will allow not to apply power supply restrictions to consumers.
“Another nuclear unit has come out of scheduled maintenance ahead of schedule, but in compliance with all safety standards. Its connection will help to balance the country’s power system and avoid electricity restrictions,” said Energy Minister German Galushchenko.
