Can a business affected by the war open a fundraiser for recovery?

Businesses that suffered during the war have no right to open fundraisers for their recovery. This opinion was expressed by businessman and owner of the Medtekhnika chain Oleksiy Davydenko on his Facebook page, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.

According to him, affected entrepreneurs have no “moral right” to ask for help during the war. After all, if such a business has existed since the end of February 2022 and has not closed, it was profitable and could support itself.

“Everyone is suffering now. But you are an entrepreneur and you can borrow from partners, friends, in a drawer, on credit. It’s not for children. It’s not for IDPs. It is not for the military or for weapons. This is not for people who have lost their homes and the hope of restoring them,” Davydenko wrote.

According to the businessman, all fees should be only for the protection and rescue of those who cannot otherwise and do not earn money on it. Donations and fees are needed by those who need it most.

“Businesses affected by the war do not need donations, but they do need emotional support. It’s normal to go for a coffee in a coffee shop or restaurant that was hit by a rocket and leave a tip for the staff. Ordering goods from a store that has left the occupation is normal. It’s normal to go to the supermarket whose warehouse burned to the ground in the evening,” emphasizes the owner of the Medtekhnika chain.

Oleksiy Davydenko also added that buying Ukrainian goods instead of Chinese counterparts is the main support that people can provide for domestic business.

“I am writing this as the owner of a chain that has lost more than one store due to the occupation and shelling. We are not asking for anything from anyone,” he summarized.
