President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes that in the coming weeks or months there are chances to force Russia to cease fire on the battlefield.
He made the statement during his visit to Chernihiv region, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.
According to the head of state, everyone is united in the issue of an early ceasefire – the United States, European partners, and Ukraine, despite the fact that each side has its own interests.
Zelenskyy also emphasized that a complete ceasefire would mean the end of the hot phase of the conflict, but it would not mean the end of the war.
“I think that after the ceasefire, it would be a good confidence for our people that everything is going to the end of the war and to a just peace,” the head of state said.
What is known about the “truce”?
At talks with the United States in Saudi Arabia on March 11, Ukraine expressed its readiness to accept the US proposal for the immediate introduction of a 30-day ceasefire. According to the President’s Office, the United States will bring this initiative to Russia’s attention.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Kyiv was ready for a ceasefire. However, he emphasized that it will only work if Russia agrees to it.
Russian leader Vladimir Putin replied that Moscow agrees with the proposals to end hostilities, but there are issues that still need to be discussed.
