11 November 14:22

The Kyiv City State Administration cannot decide whether to put up a Christmas tree on St. Sophia Square this year. The issue of installing the Main Christmas Tree will be decided in late November, taking into account all current circumstances. This was reported to RBC-Ukraine by the Department of Culture of the Kyiv City State Administration, Komersant ukrainskyi reports

Under martial law, the Kyiv city authorities have implemented special security measures to ensure peace for residents. The Department of Culture reported that due to the Law of Ukraine “On the Legal Regime of Martial Law” and the recommendations of the Security Service of Ukraine, this year there are no plans to hold New Year and Christmas events in open areas of Kyiv. This means that Kyiv residents will not see large concerts, mass festivities, and the usual street festivals.

The issue of installing the Main Christmas Tree will be decided in late November, taking into account all current circumstances.

Where will the New Year and Christmas events take place?

Instead of open locations, the main festive events are planned in municipal cultural institutions, such as

  • theaters – performances and special New Year’s programs;
  • museums – Christmas exhibitions and master classes;
  • libraries – literary readings and children’s performances.

Such events will be held in compliance with the requirements and restrictions in force during martial law and taking into account the current security situation

They also noted that, for security reasons, the generalized program of Christmas and New Year’s events will not be published or announced in the media and social networks.

Last year, the country’s main Christmas tree was installed at the expense of patrons.
