Why cucumber prices are rising in Ukraine: reasons and forecasts
25 June 05:18
After the recent sharp decline in cucumber prices on the Ukrainian market, analysts of the EastFruit project report a resumption of price growth in this segment, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
According to experts, the main reason for the rise in prices is a significant reduction in the supply of cucumbers from local producers. Most greenhouse farms are currently carrying out cleaning work in preparation for the next crop rotation, which has led to a decrease in harvest volumes.
In addition, unfavorable weather conditions slowed down the harvesting of cucumbers in summer greenhouses, which also reduced their supply on the market.
At present, prices for greenhouse cucumbers range from 30-50 UAH/kg ($0.72-1.20/kg), which is on average 13% higher than at the end of the previous week.

Despite the current price increase, greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine remain 16% cheaper compared to the same period last year.
At the same time, market participants fear that further price increases may negatively affect demand and sales of these products.
