While fighting continues in the Kursk region, the Sumy District Council’s decision to annex Russian territories to Ukraine has been posted online, Ukrposhta plans to open branches, and social media users have been posting memes like “Judgment in half a day”. Of course, these are all jokes, but Kommersant Ukrainian
on 8 August, the media reported that the Russian city of Sudzha and the Sudzha district had allegedly joined the Sumy region. However, the district council debunked the fake.
“The Sumy District Council officially informs that there is no draft decision in the draft decisions and the agenda of the council, this issue is not within its competence,”
– the district council said in a statement.
Instead, Ukrposhta CEO Ihor Smelyansky announced the opening of a post office in the town of Sudzha, which is located 10 kilometres from the Ukrainian border. He wrote about this on his Facebook page. “He says all this for the sake of high-quality delivery of press parcels and written correspondence to our heroic Armed Forces and Russian citizens liberated from the occupation regime. He even provided the address – 12 Sovetskaya Street, Sudzha.
However, it would be worth considering a new street name. After all, decommunisation in Ukraine continues.
Nova Poshta, in turn, has managed to take over the logistics market in the liberated Sudzha.
At the same time, the Wikipedia article on Sudzha and Kursk has updated information that these are Ukrainian cities.
So why not rename the city of Kursk, Ukrainians thought. A new name appeared online – Ukrsk.
What is behind the jokes and smiles of Ukrainians?
Such optimism is now desperately needed by Ukrainians and businesses, explains
“Against the backdrop of many problems in the country, this is perceived with enthusiasm, it is a situational option when there is something positive. It will work in the moment, right now. In a few days, when this process is completed, the reaction will be different.”
Oleg Khomyak
There are enough betrayals in our lives, so victories, even if they are small, inspire society. Moreover, against the backdrop of not-so-good news from the frontline, the capture of a Russian city is like a breath of fresh air, and we need such emotions now, the psychologist notes. Moreover, it is easier to hide a depressed emotional state under jokes.
“The general state of Ukrainians is depression. Not only because of the war, but also because of the economic situation, prices, mobilisation, and power cuts. It is not known what will happen in the future. And we need some kind of event that allows us to experience good emotions at one time.”
Oleg Khomyak
However, the psychologist notes that in the long run, and the subsequent good infusion, point events will not affect the long-term perspective. There is no such thing as a sedative.
“Arestovich” will not work now. Today, “betrayal” is growing in society and is becoming a habit for Ukrainians. Hence the manipulation of the mass consciousness, and scandals divert attention from something else.”
Oleg Khomyak
Obviously, only the victory itself, more successes of our soldiers at the front and more effective destruction of the enemy can help to change the mood of Ukrainians into the “victory” mode. There is only one recipe for this: to reject the “all is lost” regime and work together to win. And learn to see small joys and victories in every day.
