“With another statement on peace talks, China tries to improve relations with the US” – Reiterovych
6 December 16:37China has made another statement on the Russian-Ukrainian war. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian emphasized the need for joint efforts by the international community to achieve peace and “positive energy,” Komersant ukrainskyi reports.
“Only when all the great powers demonstrate positive energy will we be able to see hope for a quick ceasefire.”
– Lin Jian said, calling on the major powers to join in creating conditions for negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.
“China wants to be part of the process”
Political analyst Ihor Reiterovych believes that such statements by China are standard, but have several hidden signals.
“They have repeatedly made similar statements before. But now I think they realize two things. The first is that the situation may indeed move a little bit from the state it is in, given the results of the US elections and the intensification of such, so far informal, diplomacy to resolve the key problems of the Russian-Ukrainian war,”

The second aspect, according to Reiterovich, indicates China’s attempt to integrate into this process and even look for certain opportunities to improve relations with the United States.
“China wants to participate in this process in one way or another, perhaps even hoping that if it indirectly, not directly, supports the US initiative somewhere, it will have a positive impact on US-China relations,” he adds,
– he adds.
According to the political scientist, such signals may be a response to possible actions by the Donald Trump administration, which views China as its main competitor.
“It’s no secret that Trump considers China his main enemy and may start attacking it with various duties and trade wars. In this way, China can send a certain signal: we can come to an agreement, and as a gesture of goodwill, we will even try to influence, indirectly, of course, the Russian Federation to be more attentive to statements from Washington,”
