The British government has extended the validity of Ukrainian driving licenses

Holders of Ukrainian driving licenses will be able to drive on UK roads for another 18 months. This decision was announced by Lilian Greenwood, Member of Parliament, Minister for the Future of Roads, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.

In addition, according to her, Ukrainians who have a visa to stay in the country will be exempted from the need to register their vehicles for the next 18 months, as well as from paying excise duty on vehicles with Ukrainian registration. This, according to Lillian Greenwood, will reduce the financial pressure on Ukrainian citizens and avoid unnecessary costs and complications.

“This may seem like a small thing, but I am glad that our country is taking steps to make everyday life easier for those who have been enduring incredible hardships for 3 years. The United Kingdom and Ukraine have an unbreakable bond, reflected in the recently announced 100-year partnership, which ensures that we maintain a closer relationship for generations to come,” the official said.

The report also emphasizes that the UK, which has steadfastly supported Ukraine, has provided £12.8 billion in humanitarian, economic and military support since the Russian invasion in February 2022.

What is known about the UK-Ukraine agreement

on January 16 this year, during the visit of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer to Ukraine, Ukraine and the United Kingdom signed a 100-year agreement.

At the time, Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the agreement “a fundamentally new format of relations.” It provides for deepening security ties and strengthening partnership for future generations. The treaty is to strengthen military cooperation in the field of maritime security through a new structure to enhance the security of the Baltic, Black and Azov Seas and deter ongoing Russian aggression. The agreement also establishes the UK as Ukraine’s priority partner in the energy sector, critical minerals extraction strategy, and clean steel production.

At the same time, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the UK had planned $6.6 billion in military aid for Ukraine through 2025, after which it would allocate at least $3 billion annually.
