The UK has announced a new aid package for Ukraine worth more than $780 million. This was stated by British Foreign Secretary David Lammy, according to the government’s website, Komersant ukrainskyi reports
“The UK’s support for Ukraine is unwavering. Our pledge of over £600 million is the latest part of our ongoing support for Ukraine. It will provide vital support to Ukrainians as they continue to endure Russia’s relentless attacks,” said Lemmy.
In particular, £242 million will be made available in 2024-2025 to cover urgent humanitarian, energy and stabilisation needs, as well as to support reform, recovery and reconstruction.
This year’s funding includes £100 million for humanitarian assistance, including support for Ukrainians in communities near the frontline.
An additional £20 million will double this year’s aid for essential repairs, protection of power grids, and strengthening of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
40 million pounds will be spent on stabilisation and early recovery, “so that Ukraine not only wins the war, but also takes the first step towards peace”.
It is known that London will provide Kyiv with $310 million for humanitarian needs, and $484 million will be loan guarantees provided by the World Bank to support vital public services, including support for hospitals and schools, civil servants’ salaries and pensions.
“The loan guarantee provided by the World Bank is the second deployment of a $3 billion package that the UK committed to at the Ukraine Recovery Conference in London last year,” the article explained.
At the same time, the head of the British Ministry of Defence, John Healey, stressed that Ukraine would receive hundreds of additional air defence missiles, tens of thousands of additional artillery rounds, and more armoured vehicles by the end of 2024.
It is worth noting that David Lammy arrived in Kyiv together with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken on 11 September.
