EU High Representative Josep Borrell has condemned the Russian shelling of an International Committee of the Red Cross truck in Donetsk region, which killed three ICRC representatives , Borrell wrote in his post on social network X, Komersant ukrainskyi reports
Borrell said that he “condemns in the strongest possible terms” the Russian shelling of an ICRC truck transporting humanitarian aid in Donetsk region.
“Humanitarian workers cannot be targeted under any circumstances. the Russian Federation will be held accountable for all violations of international humanitarian law,” he said.
On the morning of 12 September, Russians shelled Viroliubivka in Donetsk Oblast, killing three people and injuring two others. The victims of the attack were ICRC staff members.
The ICRC staff had arrived in the village to distribute fuel briquettes to local residents to heat their homes. At the time of the attack, they were unloading the delivered aid. The attack killed three men on the spot. Two of their colleagues sustained shrapnel wounds and mine-blast injuries. The victims were taken to a medical facility.
ICRC President Mirjana Spoljaric condemned the shelling of a humanitarian aid distribution site in Donetsk region, which killed three ICRC staff members, without blaming Russia.
