Greco-Roman wrestler Parviz Nasibov lost in the final of the 87kg weight category and brought Ukraine its third silver medal of the 2024 Olympic Games, Komersant ukrainskyi reports, citing the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine.
On the eve of the final, Nasibov underwent a procedure on his eye, which he injured in a semi-final match with world ranking leader Hasrat Jafarov of Azerbaijan, and competed with a protective patch.
In the final, the 25-year-old Ukrainian lost to Iranian Said Esmaili Leivesi with a score of 5:6.
During the match, the Ukrainian athlete was supported by his wife and young son, who is only a few months old.
Nasibov is a silver medallist at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and a two-time bronze medallist at the European Championships (2023, 2024).
Nasibov’s medal is Ukraine’s ninth at the Olympics. The Blue and Yellows now have three gold, three silver and three bronze medals.
