Bloomberg: Scholz, Putin set to talk today
15 November 15:32German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Vladimir Putin are going to talk. The phone call is scheduled for Friday. Bloomberg reports this with reference to anonymous interlocutors familiar with the matter, Komersant ukrainskyi informs.
The publication emphasizes that this call will be the first direct communication between the leaders in almost two years.
Bloomberg also draws attention to the fact that Trump’s victory in the US election has increased doubts about helping Ukraine and the allies have begun discussing scenarios for ending hostilities.
In this regard, the publication recalls that last Wednesday, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken made a hastily organized trip to Brussels. He was to assure NATO and European Union allies that the United States would step up its efforts to send resources to Ukraine on the eve of the inauguration of Trump, who has sharply criticized the extent of US aid to Kyiv.
As you know, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has previously expressed a desire to talk to Putin. The last such statement was made on November 10 in an interview with the ARD TV channel. Then Scholz said that he “decided to talk to the Russian president at the right time.” When asked when that time would come, the German chancellor replied “soon” and promised that he would not do it alone, but intended to involve “many contacts.”
