Blogger avoids UAH 5 million in taxes by making payments in cryptocurrency

Detectives of the Territorial Department of the Bureau of Economic Security in Kyiv region have secured compensation for more than UAH 5 million in damages that the blogger caused to the state budget by not paying taxes. This was reported by Komersant ukrainskyi with reference to the BES.
According to the investigation, the entrepreneur, who earns money from online advertising, had been evading personal income tax and military duty for a long time.
The scheme was as follows:
- Later, digital assets were exchanged for cash, which allowed him to hide his real income.
- The blogger received orders to promote goods and services on social media.
- Funds for advertising campaigns were transferred to his accounts.
- To avoid taxation, he converted the income into cryptocurrency using electronic wallets and payment systems registered in his and fictitious persons’ names.
The offender was served a notice of suspicion of committing a criminal offense under Part 1 of Art. 212 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (tax evasion, duties, mandatory payments).
Currently, the BES detectives have secured full compensation for the losses incurred, and the case has been sent to court with a request to release the person from criminal liability.
