The US is not just withdrawing from the talks – Russia will bomb even harder

OPINION

I’m sorry that it’s Good Friday, but we’re not moving in a very optimistic scenario. And to avoid it becoming catastrophic, “after Easter” we need to really get smart. Especially those whose decisions affect the country’s future defense capability.

The United States is not simply withdrawing from the negotiations. The Trump team will pretend not to notice the war in Europe. And with its other hand, it will try to find mechanisms that will allow for economic “offsets” with Moscow. Until the Kremlin’s “throw” is complete. Russia will bomb even harder to exert psychological pressure and deplete our air defense. As for weapons, God forbid that they should at least sell them to us.

What should the government do in this whole story (when Europe is also fragmenting)? First of all, it should mobilize the internal resources of society. In a situation where there is considerable distrust, this is difficult, but necessary, because the government alone will not mop up the mess. This is also obvious.

I will not offer a recipe for a “government of unity” – we have already gone over this. At this critical moment, in principle, some kind of strategic council should be formed, where the president will not hear floor speeches, but will work out strategies for our common survival as a nation together with other participants in political and economic processes.

Obviously, this Council should include those who have already proven their effectiveness in certain areas of work, as well as those who have gained experience during the war. I do not see a problem if “patriotic oligarchs”, current managers (if they have a vision), business representatives, local government representatives, civil society representatives, and clergy sit together.

By and large, we have 3-4 months to formulate tasks and start working in different directions to strengthen our defense capabilities. By the fall, Russia will enter what they call the “final stage of the MDS,” and we need to be as prepared as possible for this.
