Nine Boxer APCs: How Germany is becoming an active security provider for Ukraine

The official website of the German government has published information about the intention to supply us with 9 Boxer RCT-30 armored personnel carriers integrated with a fire control system.
These vehicles will use 30×173 mm programmable air-launched shells.
They have a unified unmanned turret from Puma, which reduces the cost of one unit and simplifies repairs.
Of course, this is not an air defense system – the German guns have armor-piercing sub-caliber ammunition against hard targets in their belts in case of a breakthrough, just like the Cheetahs.
This has been the case historically since World War II – even the Wehrmacht’s specialized Wirbelwind self-propelled guns used 20 mm armor-piercing rounds against armored vehicles and light tanks that had broken through.

Fighting drones in this modification of the Boxer is only an option. There is a simple analyzer for detecting the UAV signal (no radar) and a warning about laser exposure if the self-propelled vehicle starts to be illuminated.
But the main niche is maximum flexibility.
Aerial detonation produces beams of destructive elements that can hit drones.
The turret has a good Spike long-range ATGM, and in the new versions it can be used with external targeting – to defend the vehicle against enemy breakthroughs and create a perimeter around the camp.
The new versions have 900 mm of armor penetration and a tandem charge – the Kremlin regime has no tanks that can hold this.

In case of problems, the Boxer can pull its brother in the SAU version. It has a good range of 700 km, a reliable engine, gearbox, and chassis.
The company kit can also be used on the front line as a combat taxi capable of fire support and repelling FPV and Lancets.
Probably, the Germans want to test the application in the conditions of the new reality in Europe – human waves, North Korean self-propelled artillery systems, drones, including Lancets, various electronic warfare (the analyzer and optical guidance cannot be fooled or jammed).
Plus, work in conjunction with the new RCH 155 SAMs: try to put targeted air defense around them; try to see if they can be pure sky defense machines; organizational issues and repairs for childhood diseases, especially field repairs (unification).

Ukraine is becoming a full-fledged operator of several weapon lines on this base: “Skyranger (short- and long-range air defense against drones), self-propelled artillery systems, and now a multi-purpose version with a turret from Puma.

Germany as a security provider
Germany is increasingly receiving not only costs but also bonuses from the war in Europe.
Lynx infantry fighting vehicles are planned to be shipped to Ukraine, Greece, Romania, and Hungary. In 2023, a plant will be built in Zalaegerszeg, Hungary. There will be a plant in Ukraine.
In the future, it will produce at least 700 vehicles in various modifications. The first company set has already arrived in Ukraine for testing.
We plan to have 4 Rheinmetall enterprises in Ukraine. These include air defense equipment, tanks, ammunition and gunpowder.
There are also service centers for German equipment in Slovakia, Romania and Poland, which protect German Patriots.
“Iris-T, as the basis of the EU’s “Sky Shield” – three dozen radars have already been ordered. At the lower level, the defense will be carried out by the “Skyranger”, which is dozens of batteries.
Orders worth billions, a 5-fold increase in Rheinmetal’s shares in just over 3 years, framework agreements, the penetration of German capital throughout Eastern Europe and beyond.
A joint submarine construction program with Norway – Berlin has expanded it from 4 units to 6.
It is very similar to the situation before the two world wars in Europe, when Berlin penetrated the politics of countries of interest through military-technical cooperation and loans.
The war changed the political situation in the EU, and now it is changing the economic situation. We are fine with the fact that the Germans are scaling up the number of Boxers and Lynxes to Ukraine. Germany is becoming an increasingly active security provider for Kyiv.
