Russia’s latest missile strikes on Ukraine, which hit critical energy infrastructure, demonstrate the need for the US Congress to immediately introduce and pass a bill supporting Ukraine. This was stated by the White House spokesperson Karin Jean-Pierre during a briefing, Komersant ukrainsky reports.
Karin Jean-Pierre said that Vladimir Putin continues to try to break the spirit of the Ukrainian people and plunge them into darkness.
“Russia struck the largest power plant in Kyiv region, as well as energy facilities in five other regions of Ukraine. As President Zelenskyy has stated in recent days, Ukraine needs more air defence and interceptor capabilities to protect its people and critical infrastructure from Russian missiles and drones supplied by Iran,”
– she said.
The White House spokeswoman called on the US House of Representatives to pass a bipartisan national security bill so that the US could send more air defence systems to Ukraine.
“We need Speaker Mike Johnson to bring this bill to the floor, because we know that we’re going to get overwhelming support from Republicans and Democrats. That’s why we need to see the bill, which has already been overwhelmingly passed in the Senate, come to a vote. The attacks on Ukraine over the past 24 hours are yet another horrific reminder that Ukraine’s needs are critical,”
– said Carine Jean-Pierre.
On 11 April, the Russian military attacked energy infrastructure facilities in Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Lviv, Kyiv and Odesa regions with drones and missiles.
During the massive attack, the terrorists completely destroyed the Trypillia thermal power plant in Kyiv region. According to Ukrenergo, the company’s substations and generation facilities in Odesa, Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia regions were damaged.
