Most Ukrainians became poorer during the year – survey
27 December 09:34According to an all-Ukrainian online survey conducted in December 2024 by Postmen, 56% of Ukrainians said their income decreased during the year. At the same time, a third of respondents had “significantly decreased” their incomes, according to Komersant ukrainskyi.
The situation with expenses is even more dramatic – 41% of respondents have “significantly increased” their expenses, which is 6% more than last year. Overall, 67% of respondents reported an increase in costs.
The difficult economic situation has also affected people’s savings. 34.5% of Ukrainians have no savings at all, which is 4% more than last year. Among those who do have savings, most of them are quite modest – 27% said their savings would last for a month at most, and another 25% – up to six months.

Despite economic difficulties, 62% of Ukrainians plan to celebrate New Year and Christmas holidays. Most (71.4%) plan to spend up to UAH 1000 on gifts. The average amount planned for gifts is UAH 2710. The most popular gifts will be sweets, small souvenirs and toys.
As for the holiday table, 47% plan to spend no more than UAH 1000 on it, and the average planned amount is UAH 2100. The vast majority (94%) will prepare holiday meals on their own or with their families.
When choosing goods, the main criteria for Ukrainians are price (75.2% of respondents) and quality (67.8%). Another important factor is the manufacturer’s pro-Ukrainian stance and lack of ties with Russia.
The survey covered 1241 respondents from all regions of Ukraine, except for the temporarily occupied territories. The sampling error excluding the design effect is 2.8%.
