Security first and foremost: Spain introduces tough border checks ahead of UN conference in Seville

9 June 17:56

Spain is stepping up security measures in connection with the V United Nations International Conference on Financing for Development, which will be held in late June and early July in Seville. Tourists are warned of possible delays due to strict checks at borders, international airports and train stations.

This was reported by the official portal of the European Union, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

The increased control will be in effect

  • on the land borders with France and Portugal;
  • at the main airports of the country: Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Malaga, Alicante, etc;
  • in major seaports, in particular in Andalusia, Catalonia and the Balearic Islands (Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Malaga).

The UN conference will bring together representatives of dozens of countries, international financial institutions and leading economists. It is expected that temporary restrictions and enhanced security measures will be in place in Spain during the conference.

Tourists are advised to take into account possible queues and delays when crossing the border or staying in transit zones, especially from late June to early July.
